The Goldfinch follows young Theo Decker after his mom got killed in a terrorist attack in the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. In the aftermath, Theo steals the painting “The Goldfinch.” This, along with his mothers death, paints a life of adventure, thrill, heartbreak, loss, and redemption. Due to the loss of his mother, as Theo matures he’s tempted to make dangerous and impulsive decisions, even putting his own life in danger. While Theo discovers how to navigate his troubles and persevere, the painting puts him in another ring of danger, unknown to him. Through Theo’s story, we look for the meaning of art, friendship, love, and loss.
Personal Rating:
6.8 out of 7 stars
My all time favorite book. There’s so many layers to this book, I've read it multiple times, and there's always new things I’m finding through the plot and story. The movie is worth the watch too, there’s a few familiar faces in it.
