The children began this unit of work by learning what technology is. They then classified what is and what is not technology in their classroom. They demonstrated their understanding of how technology helps us in different ways.
To identify a computer and its main parts
● I can name the main parts of a computer
● I can switch on and log into a computer
● I can use a mouse to click and drag
The children began to learn the main parts of a desktop and Chromebook. They practised turning on and logging in to a computer. They applied their knowledge of the different parts of a computer, to complete a mouse-based task.
Arlo - I tried to draw a pumpkin but it was hard to draw the eyes.
Matzias - I was trying to make a dinosaur but I couldn't do it.

Learning objective: To use a mouse in different ways
● I can use a mouse to open a program
● I can click and drag to make objects on a screen
● I can use a mouse to create a picture
The children reviewed last week's learning and were able to identify the different parts of a computer and explain what each part does. They are developing an understanding that different computers use different mice, but they perform the same function. During the lesson, they used a mouse or trackpad to create a picture. The children began to use the computer keyboard. They learnt that writing on a keyboard is called typing and they started by practising typing their names.

This week, the children demonstrated their ability to use a keyboard to edit text, by writing a sentence and then deleting letters. They also used the keyboard arrow keys to move the text cursor in their text box.

This week, children are introduced to the concept of using computers safely, within the context of a school setting. They explored why we have rules in school and how those rules help us, and then applied this understanding to rules needed for using computer technology safely.
