This unit will continue to add to our knowledge as we learn how to write melodies for the drums, bass, and chords that we have practiced already.
Within music we have to understand how to create a melody within the key signature that we are playing in. The following document will provide us with some simple ideas about how a melody can move around within a specific chord progression to create a strong melody.
ASSIGNMENT #27 - You will be entering the 3 lines of melody and chords from the attached PDF into Soundtrap
Create a new project
Create a drum groove
Create a bass line within the chord progression provided
Create the chords for the progression provided
Play the melodies as they are written out in red on the document provided.
This project will be a total of 12 measures long.
Using our previous knowledge, create your own 16 measure song. The song needs to include the following items, but you can use more if needed
ASSIGNMENT #28
Create a new project
Create a drum groove
Create a chord progression in any key
Create a bass line within that chord progression
Create the chords for the progression
Create a melody using the ideas from the previous document to help you create great music.
This project must be 16 or more measures long
When creating a melody there will be notes that can be sung or played that are not part of the chords. These non chord tones still work well within the piece of music, especially if they are a part of that key signature. Watch the video for a great explanation of how this works.
ASSIGNMENT #29
Using the document provided, practice playing some new melody ideas using non chord tones.
Create a new project
It will be a total of 6 measures long, using the chords C and F. CEG and FAC will be the triads for those chords. Hold out those chords for 1 measure each. Repeat those chords 3 times total
Over the top of those chords you will be playing the 3 examples from the beatmaps on the PDF that is provided.
Just like every other aspect we have discussed, melodies can have rhythms that work or don't work with the music we are creating. Watch the video and read through this document to get an idea about how to play various rhythms!
