This unit will be devoted to the creation of notes, chords, and chord progressions. We will be adding to our previous knowledge as we work to continue creating music in new projects.
The first section of this unit will be focused on creating triads in the key of C major. Follow the video from The Shed to use your right hand to play chords on the piano.
ASSIGNMENT #22 - On your own, demonstrate your ability to play the Root, First Inversion, and Second Inversion of the C major triad. You will perform this for the teacher. Use the video provided to learn how to play it.
ASSIGNMENT #23 - On your own, demonstrate your ability to play a I, IV, V chord progression as demonstrated on the video. You will perform this for the teacher. Use the video provided to learn how to play it.
The document provided has a description about how triads and their inversions are spelled.
Just like bass lines, there are many rhythms that can be played using chords. The video and document provided have descriptions about how to play some of the various rhythms.
ASSIGNMENT #24 - For this assignment you will be creating a project on Soundtrap to practice the various types of rhythms
Create a new project on Soundtrap
Add a drum groove to the track
Add a bass line using a I, IV, V, I chord progression in the key of C Major C, F, G, C
Using the chords listed above, create a 4 measure loop with a full measure pad, backbeat punches, ostinato pattern, and riff. (Watch the video for more info)
In order to create ease of motion and minimal movement between voices, chords should be inverted in a chord progression. Use the following document to help you understand how to invert chords to make the transitions sound smoother and easier to play on the keyboard.
