Junior Book Awards

Junior Book Awards

The junior book awards are a long standing tradition at Milton High School where members of the junior class are awarded books and prizes for their scholastic and civic efforts. These awards are sponsored by college and university local alumni chapters, offices of admissions, and some staff and community members.

Gabrielle Slate

Boston College Book Award

This book award is sponsored by Milton High School Math teacher, Ms. Amy Starzynski, and honors high overall academic achievement and commitment to the community.

Abigail Raymond

Boston University Book Award for English

This book, sponsored by English Department member John Radosta, a graduate of Boston University, is awarded to a junior who evidences strong academic achievement with emphasis in English, an intellectual curiosity, and a concern for the community.

Matthew Paquette

Brown University Book Award

This award is sponsored by Brown University alumnus and former Assistant Superintendent for Business, Dr. Glenn Pavlicek. The award is presented to the junior who best combines excellence in spoken and written expression with outstanding overall academic achievement.

Tracy Le

Bryn Mawr College President's Book Award

This book award is presented to a junior in recognition of a true love of learning and an intellectual curiosity about the world.

John Clancy

Columbia University Book Prize

This book award is sponsored by the Columbia Club of New England in recognition of a junior who has demonstrated high academic achievement in the study of history.

Meckenzie Boylan

Curry College Award

This award is sponsored by Mr. Kenneth K. Quigley, Jr., Milton High School Class of 1975, and President of Curry College since 1996. It is presented to a junior who has given outstanding service to the school community.

Maxwell Mitchell

Dartmouth College Book Award

This book award is sponsored by the Dartmouth Club of Greater Boston and is presented to a junior who has attained an outstanding combined academic average in three rigorous college preparatory subjects, two of which include mathematics and English with emphasis in composition.

Harvard University Book Prize

This award is sponsored by the Harvard Club of Boston (Henry Howe, ’29 and John Macomber, ’66) and is presented to two members of the junior class who, “by virtue of character, scholastic excellence and achievement in extracurricular activities, best exemplify the traditional ideal of American citizenship.”

The Rensselaer Medal is sponsored by the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Office of Admissions and is awarded to an outstanding junior student in science and mathematics.

This book award is sponsored by the Smith Alumnae Association to recognize a junior woman who has demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, service to her school and community, and concern for others.

Suffolk University Book Award

This award is sponsored by the Suffolk University Office of Admissions and is given to a student who exemplifies a commitment to their education and the school community.

University of Massachusetts at Amherst Book Award

This book award is sponsored by Milton High School English teacher, Dyanne Crowley, and is presented for overall academic excellence and superlative writing potential. The student also contributes positively to the high school community and possesses the qualities of leadership.

University of Virginia Book Award

The University of Virginia Jefferson Book Award recognizes a member of the junior class who embraces creativity and innovation, while embodying the spirit of discovery, much like UVA’s founder, Thomas Jefferson. The recipient is a demonstrated citizen leader who works to improve their community locally and/or globally.

This book award, sponsored by the Boston Area Wellesley College Alumnae Association, is presented to a junior female who demonstrates academic excellence and service to her school and community.

Maxwell Hollingsworth-Hays

Williams College Book Award

This book award is sponsored by former School Committee member and current Town Selectboard Member Michael Zullas, and is given to a student who has demonstrated intellectual leadership while making a significant contribution to the extracurricular life of the school.

This book award is made available by the Yale Alumni Association and is presented to a junior student who is an outstanding academic and an involved student.
