Teacher Appreciation Award:
Class of 2020

Elizabeth Tahaney

Milton High School English Department

Some words from the Class of 2020

As William Arthur Ward once said, “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” Mrs Tahaney, we can’t thank you enough for inspiring us to be our best selves. Thank you for all the help you've provided me this year in my writing and my planning for the future. You brightened my days A Period every morning we had and gave me something to look forward to first thing. Your class was engaging and I felt confident and comfortable participating and learning from my peers. The environment you created with artwork and meaningful conversations allowed me to learn in a new way and engage with the literature we explored. Mrs Tahaney, you have emboldened me as a learner, and for that I am forever grateful. This award is rightfully earned. Thank you and congratulations! - Guinevere Ferreira, Class of 2020

We appreciate you, and the sacrifices you make to support us don't go unnoticed. As a teacher you welcome the challenges that come with teaching both Freshman and Seniors, from adjusting to high school to preparing for postgraduate plans. Your passion for teaching is evident and it is clear to each and every one of your students that you want them to succeed. You offered constant reassurance in the stressful time of college essay writing, and have maintained high spirits throughout our transition to online learning, without missing a beat. Thank you for allowing us to grow as students and as people in your class, the lessons you taught extend much further than the classroom and will help us make it through the many years ahead. - Nicole Dragon, Class of 2020

Mrs. Tahaney is the winner of this award for countless reasons. One is her ability to teach. She made me enjoy reading - Something I never thought would be possible. Two is her ability to inspire her students and keep ehr classes fun and interesting. To her, it isn’t all about cranking out assignments, finishing books, and writing essays. She wants to hear her students’ opinions and lets each class dictate itself. Most important however is how much she cares for and loves her students. She understands how stressful and draining high school can be, and does whatever she can to remove those feelings from her classroom. And I will never forget the comforting words she wrote for my classmates and I after receiving the news that we would no longer be returning to school. She puts herself in her students’ shoes, and that is why Mrs. Tahaney deserves this award. - Luke Botsford, Class of 2020

Hi Mrs. Tahaney! I just want to thank you for being such an amazing teacher and mentor. You not only taught English, but also life lessons that will carry us throughout our years. You always go above and beyond for your students and your passion is evident in everything you do. You have been an amazing support system to seniors during this pandemic and we truly appreciate everything you’ve done for us. I’ll miss our English class circle discussions and the thought and heart you put into each one of our lessons. - Alisa Lorden, Class of 2020

Some words from the Class of 2021

The Junior class has selected Ms. O’Donnell to be recognized for her kind heart and dedication to MHS students. She's super efficient, serving hundreds of hungry teens different snacks, and does it with a smile too! Not many people could do that. She is so thoughtful and makes kids smile through little things such as thanking each kid by name. She brightens up our day and we are so thankful she is part of our MHS community! - The Class of 2021

Mr. Guarino was nominated due to his significant positive impact on the students of Milton High School and on the school community as a whole. Throughout our high school careers, he has always been an invaluable resource for all of us, whether by helping us select our courses, teaching us to drive, or by being a safe space for us and ensuring that we all feel welcome in the school community. JT Troy

Milton High School Librarian

Some words from the Class of 2023

JT, the Freshman class has nominated you as our faculty nomination! We chose you because of your kindness and eagerness to help any student that asks you. We would like to thank you for creating a safe space in the library for people to do homework, study, or hang out. Your dedication to the school has made Milton High so much more accepting of all its students! We especially appreciate what you have done during quarantine to make all students feel included and to give us things to do during this difficult time! Whether you are helping us through technological issues, schoolwork, or personal difficulties, we feel that your presence has encouraged the Freshman class to be the best that we can be, and to treat each other with the same respect you treat us. So from all the Freshman, thank you!
