The diversity and intricacies of pan-Asian culture often go unnoticed despite the prevalence and popularity of Asian cuisine, music, etc. How can we explore the stories of the businesses we rely on so frequently? How or why did they come to be? What kind of struggles did immigrant store-owners encounter operating a business in a foreign country? How does the recent anti-Asian violence impact the local Asian community?
Through Project: CRA, Emma Tung and Jeremy Hwang (two Milton Academy seniors) hope to uncover the cultural richness of the businesses that provide crucial services to our community in the Greater Boston Area, primarily in Quincy, Massachusetts. At the same time, we seek to promote the work they do and share their experiences with the Milton student body and faculty— perhaps, while also delving deeper into the significance of our personal identity as Asian Americans. On this website, you will find comprehensive interviews with 12 Asian-owned businesses. We hope to not only learn their unique and challenging success stories through our project but also to bring to light their businesses for the rest of the community to enjoy.
