Professional Learning Communities

PLC's at MHS

A Professional Learning Community, or PLC, is a group of educators that meets regularly, shares expertise, and works collaboratively to improve teaching skills and the academic performance of students. The Professional Learning Community at Work model offers a systems approach to school improvement. Teachers are organized into grade level, course specific, or interdisciplinary collaborative teams in which educators work interdependently to achieve common goals for which members are mutually accountable.

At Mililani High School, our PLC's use the Data Teams process as a protocol to guide our PLC discussions.

MHS PLC's meet once a week for approximately 40 minutes. PLC time is a priority and we encourage our teachers to use this time to discuss and analyze data in order to determine the best learning strategies, lessons, and activities for our students. We also use extended hours to provide additional time for our PLC's to discuss and analyze data. As we enter our 12th year of PLC implementation, our PLC's have been focusing on identifying essential standards that will serve as the foci for their common curriculum maps. This is one of the steps in our journey for vertical and horizontal alignment.
