Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Difference between Running Start, Jumpstart, Early Admit, and Early College MOAs?

Running Start, Jumpstart and Early Admit are all Early College programs that allow individual students to pursue college credits. In general, students participating in these programs independently navigate the admissions, registration and testing processes (with the support of Leeward CC's Early College Counselor); attend their classes at the Leeward CC campus (or any of the UH affiliated campuses); and are responsible for their own costs (Jumpstart students are sponsored by their high school). Our Early College MOA program allows schools to systematically pursue college credit opportunities for larger groups of their students. Students participating in this program are batch admitted, tested and registered for their classes; typically attend their college classes on their high school campus; and usually have their costs sponsored by their high school.

Can my Early College students withdraw from their college courses?

Yes, however they must do so by the deadlines published on the Leeward website. Students who withdraw during the "erase" period (first 3 weeks of class) will have the course(s) removed completely from their record. Students who withdraw after this point will receive a "W" grade. Students will not be allowed to withdraw after the final deadline (10th week of the semester). Students must submit a Complete Withdrawal Form to the Admissions Office to withdraw. Please not that course failure and/or receiving "W" grades can have last repercussions for Early College students once they transition to college.

Do Early College students have access to Leeward Community College Resources?

Yes. Early College students can take advantage of most of the campus resources. This includes the Library, Computer Labs, and tutoring centers.

How do I request/send my Leeward CC transcript?

You can go to the Leeward Community College website or go to the Admissions and Records office on campus. You will request a transcript request form. Please check the box that says "after the final grade has been approved" to make sure that your transcript is sent after final grades have been submitted. There is a fee to send transcripts, so please be prepared to provide payment upon request.
