Therapeutic Services Courses: Careers in the Therapeutic Services are focused primarily on changing the health status of the patient over time. Health professionals in this area work directly with patients; they may provide care, treatment, counseling and health education information.

CERTIFIED NURSE ASSISTANT PROGRAM

Grade 12

Semester 1 Level: ES-55E301 (0.5 Credit)

This two course series is for students who are interested in seeking immediate employment in the healthcare occupations after graduation or for students who are planning to continue their education in a healthcare profession. This course involves a combination of theory and clinical application of skills. Students will learn skills such as bathing and dressing patients, safe transferring, and measuring vital signs. Students will participate in 12 clinical experiences and must provide their own transportation to the clinical site. Upon successful completion of this two course series, students will be eligible to take the State of Connecticut Nurse Aide Competency Exam. Prerequisite: Students must be 16 years of age to participate according to State of Connecticut guidelines; Students must achieve a grade of C or higher in The Living Earth and Anatomy and Physiology courses.

MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY

This course is designed to introduce students to the language of healthcare. In this course students will learn the word parts, such as prefixes, suffixes, and word roots used to compose medical terms, with an emphasis on the formation, analysis, and reconstruction of terms. Students will also study symbolism and commonly used abbreviations in healthcare, as well as diagnostic, therapeutic, and symptomatic terminology of associated body systems. This course is ideal for students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare/allied health professions.
