The Early Level progression pathways are part of the assessment cycle and should be used at each stage to support discussion around observations and planning. They could be used in the following ways in both ELC and Primary 1:
To support professional discussion about where a child is within literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing, as part of a holistic discussion about the child and their learning priorities.
During planning/assessment meetings, and learning huddles to identify learning and plan challenging next steps for individuals or cohorts.
During planning/assessment meetings to assess provision of spaces, experiences and interactions across the ELC and Primary 1 classroom to highlight changes needed.
In discussion with parents/carers as a support to share learning and progression.
To enhance practitioner’s knowledge of Early Level progression in line with the Benchmarks.
