Freshwater mussels have a lifecycle unlike any other group of organisms. They use a form of parasitism to ensure the larval stage, known as glochidia, grow into juvenile mussels. Perhaps the most interesting feature of the lifecycle is how the glochidia get to the gills of the fish.
