Morris Knolls
Celebrates
CTE Month

In February the Morris Hills Regional District celebrates Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month.  CTE classes and programs prepare students for a wide range of high-wage, high-skill, and high-demand careers.  Students in CTE classes gain a valuable skill set through programs that mirror industry standards.

As a comprehensive district, Morris Hills Regional hosts State approved CTE Programs in the following areas: Architectural Drafting/ Architectural CAD, Machine Shop Technology, Automotive Mechanics Technology, Television Production, and the Culinary Arts. Additionally, elective opportunities are available in the areas of: Woodshop, Graphic Communications, Electricity, Business Education, Robotics, Engineering and Childcare.   Many of the programs offered are taught by individuals who have years of industry experience. Students who are enrolled in these programs or courses have the opportunity to earn industry valued credentials, articulated college credits, take part in competitive Career and Technical Student Organization events, and participate in Work Based Learning for on-the-job training.

This February we are proud to honor Morris Knolls High School Senior Timothy David.  Timothy has an extensive resume of CTE classes, including: Introduction to Woodworking, Cabinet Making & Furniture Design, Television Production 1, Television Production 2, Television Production 3, Sports & Entertainment Marketing, Social Media Marketing, and Personal Finance.  Additionally, Timothy is currently enrolled in two Gifted and Talented Programs: one focused on Woodworking and the other on Sports Broadcasting.

Next year, Timothy will begin pursuing his bachelor's degree in a sports-related field.   Timothy feels that the classes he has taken at Morris Knolls have guided and prepared him for his career choice. Ultimately, Timothy feels that his work in filming for various Morris Knolls sporting events as part of his Gifted and Talented program will benefit him in his chosen career.

Timothy attributes his success and love of CTE subjects to the freedom it provides him to be creative and fits his personality.  As Timothy has found success in multiple programs, he cites his Television Production teacher, Mr. Keith Kasper, and his Woodworking teacher, Mr. Bill Erickson, as his most inspirational teachers.   Timothy noted that they push and motivate him to do his best work both in and outside of their respective programs.

The skills that Timothy has obtained in his CTE classes have transferred over to his home life.  In Woodshop, Timothy built a kitchen table and kitchen bench set that remain as a centerpiece of his home kitchen.  Additionally, Timothy has crafted coffee tables that he has shared with his neighbors.

Congratulations to Timothy on his fantastic accomplishments in Career and Technical Education!
