When his father died it prevented him to get a good education. Instead private tutors and possibly a local school in Fredericksburg provided the young man with the only formal instruction he would receive.
Mrs. Washington was born June 2, 1731 in New Kent County, Virginia. Martha did not get a formal education, but she got a typical education for a girl of her class. She was taught about housekeeping, religion, music, needlework, and dancing. After the death of her first husband she met George Washington. Later they got married to him on January 6, 1759. Martha Washington was the first lady of the United States. She stood by her husband's side during the Revolutionary war. While she was the first lady, Martha Washington often felt and said "more like a state prisoner than anything else".

During the Revolutionary War Washington was a delegate to the first continental congress which was created by the 13 colonies to respond to various laws passed by the british government.
After the War Washington was considered a national hero. He was offered a government position that would have been considered a dictatorship over the colonies, but in a surprising move Washington refused to leave the Army and returned to Mount Vernon.
George Washington accomplishments: He was the first president, a founding father, led the continental army to victory, he won the revolutionary war. He was unanimously elected to be our first president. He served two terms and voluntarily stepped down.
