MHS Counseling Department - Morehead Cain Nomination Process Summer 2026!

The Morehead-Cain Scholarship at UNC Chapel Hill is a four-year, fully funded educational experience for students of the highest caliber.

Most students who receive these awards far exceed the rigorous admission requirements for UNC Chapel Hill (e.g., high GPA and test scores, very competitive class rank, leadership roles, community service, and extra-curricular involvement). For eligibility Information click here.

Students in North Carolina are eligible to enter the selection process via nomination by their school or self-nomination.

Step 1: Complete the application for school nomination here!

Completing this questionnaire will put the student in consideration for school nomination for the Morehead Cain Scholarship. It is not the same as completing the Morehead Cain Application that is due October 1st!
All applications must be done electronically. Students who submit applications after the deadline will not be considered for the school nomination.

Step 2. The Mooresville HS Scholarship Committee, composed of counselors, school administrators, and other faculty members, will make our selections based on the Morehead-Cain selection criteria. If necessary, interviews will take place..

Step 3. School nominees will be notified via email by Friday, June 26, 2026. Students who apply but do not receive the school nomination will learn how to self-nominate at this time.

Step 4. The deadline to submit school nominations to Morehead-Cain is Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Megan Fazio completes this after the Scholarship Committee makes a decision.

Step 5. Admission to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a separate process from the Morehead-Cain application. Applications to UNC Chapel Hill must be submitted by the deadline for the 2027 Admissions cycle.
