Take the Pre-ACT or PSAT this year to prepare for your upcoming college testing (ACT/SAT). Sophomore year is a good time to practice taking these tests. This is also a good time to start learining strategies for taking these tests. You can start looking at your strengths and weaknesses as well as moving towards some college test prep course.
This is a good time to evaluate your coursework and make sure you are challenging yourself with the rigor you need in the classroom. If you had difficulty your freshman year with courses, you still have time to raise that GPA.
Time to start researching colleges and see where you might want to go. Look at their requirements for entrance and see if you are on the right track. If they are accepting 50% of their students with a 3.5 GPA and you have a 3.2 GPA, you know what goals to set. It is the same with the average SAT/ACT Scores.
Start exploring careers and majors. See what colleges offer your major or interests.

If you get a chance this school year, go on a couple of campus visits. See what you like about those schools and dislike so that you can begin to narrow down your search.
Be Active: Whether you are part of a sport, band, clubs, volunteer work. Make sure you are staying active and documenting the things you have been doing on a resume. College's would like to know that you are contributing to the school or community around you. Do not wait until senior year to do this...
Have fun and enjoy your sophomore year! Try to do things that take away some of the stress. Listen to music, exercise, and find a hobby. School is stressful enough, make the best of these memories of sophomore year.
