Junior Year Bulletin
Planning for senior year and beyond!
Postsecondary Planning
Senior year is all about finding your 'E'... whether you plan to Enlist in the military, seek Employment, or Enroll in a trade school, community college, or 4-year university, we are here to help you make the most of your Senior year.
If your plan is to enlist in one of the 6 branches of the military, visit Today's Military to review joining eligibility, enlistment steps, and career opportunities.
Students who plan to enter the workforce are encouraged to reach out to Mr. Kevin Wilson at krwilson@mgsd.k12.nc.us for resources and guidance. If you have not done so already, create a resume using this worksheet as a guide.
If you plan to pursue higher education, please use this College Application Handout to help you get started. We recommend students visit college campuses as they narrow down their lists. 11th graders are allowed one excused college visit day and here is the form to request them. Forms must be submitted before the student’s planned absence in order to be excused.
Internships, Apprenticeships, and CCP Information
There are many opportunities for students to obtain practical, hands-on experience and/or college credits before graduating high school. If you have any questions about these opportunities, please reach out to Ms. Mary Royal at mmroyal@mgsd.k12.nc.us and Mr. Kevin Wilson at krwilson@mgsd.k12.nc.us.
What now?
What should students be focused on now?
Whatever a student’s plans are, they should start early!
Explore interests! Students should think about which pathway is best for them- continuing education, entering the workforce, enlisting in the military, or taking a gap year. If students plan to continue their education, they should be researching schools and thinking about what they’d like to study.
Don’t let grades slip (Junior-year grades tend to have the greatest impact on the college admissions process).
Take testing seriously! Dedicate time to earning your best test-score.
Check your school email regularly for updates and reminders.
What should parents/guardians be focused on now?
Encourage your student to make a meeting with their School Counselor and/or our Career Coordinator.
Help keep your student organized and motivated.
Assist your student in their exploration of interests and/or colleges.
Remind students that this is a crucial period that will set them up for success down the road.
When in doubt, email your School Counselor!
