Google Classroom Setup

Creating Classes

Go to: https://classroom.google.com/
In the top corner your email address should appear and a plus sign.
Click on the plus sign and then create class. Give the class a name, a section, and a subject (minimum requirement is a class name).
Push Create

Stream

Think of the stream as like your Facebook feed- it is a feed of all the work you have posted. Students get confused with it and go to find assignments here, so to disable (nothing will post unless you post it) see directions to the right.

1. Click the setting tab

2. Change Stream to- only teachers can post or comment

3. Change classwork on the stream to- hide notifications

Classwork

Topics

Topics are an easy way to organize all the assignments you post. Think of them as folders.
Any assignment with the same topic will be grouped together under the topic name you have given it and can be located under the "topics bar."
You can drag topics to change where the students see them.
You can drag assignments to different topics.

Create

a. Assignment- something you want the students to write on and turn in

b. Quiz- google form

c. Question- students can respond to a teacher question and to each other.

d. Material- I use this tab to post reminders, study guides, notes, videos- anything that does not have a due date, does not need to be turned in for a grade, or written on.

e. Reuse Post-post an assignment you have posted before

f. Topic- create a topic to group assignments

Grades

Archive, Copy, Edit, Move

Archive-At the end of a year or marking period, you can keep your class and delete all the assignments so it is ready for next year or marking period, OR you can archive a class. That means the class is still there, but not active. Archiving does not delete the class. That way you can unarchive the class and access it if needed, which you cannot do if you delete the class.
Move-drag your classroom tiles into any order you want
Edit- change the name and information about the class.
Copy- make a copy of the class.
