Meeting Days and Times
All World Language classes will be held remotely on A2 days in one-hour time blocks. There are two Spanish I sections (classes), each labeled by a different color:
Azul (Blue) Class' meeting time is from 9 AM to 10 AM.
Verde (Green) Class' meeting time from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Each class will meet once every six days...
Beginning of Class Routine
Once you enter into Zoom, you will have 1 minute to get yourself settled and ready for class (make sure your camera is turned on!) - you are expected to be present and engaged just like when we are in school together.
You will then have 8-10 minutes to work independently on the warm up for the day while on mute.
It will either be "collected" by myself for a grade, or we will go over it together as a class. You will not know in advance if it is being collected or not, so you must complete every warm up like it will be graded.
Restroom Use
Just like in school, attendance is being taken - please send a private message to me in the chat to ask permission to use the restroom.
Homework
Homework assignments are given almost every class, but most will not take you more than 10-15 minutes to complete. Homework assignments will be checked or "collected" each time they are assigned and must be turned in by the date that they are due. If it is an assignment I am checking, as long as your homework is complete, you will receive full credit for the assignment. If it is an assignment that I am "collecting," I will grade it and give you feedback on your work. You will have one week to make corrections to your work by rewriting your answer below your original one in a different color for a higher grade (up to a 4) using my feedback. Homework Assignments are weighted a 1.0 in Jumprope.
Assessments
At the end of each case study, you will have a “traditional” test that assesses your ability to use what you have learned within the skills of reading, listening, speaking and writing. You will also have an authentic task that will ask you to use you have learned in a real-world format. The format will vary from case study to case study based on what you have learned. Both will be weighted a 2 or 3 in Jumprope, depending on the task.
Google Translate
Under no circumstances are you permitted to use Google Translate or any other on-line translators for any assignment. If a translator is used, you will receive an automatic 0 on the assignment. If you need help with a task, please come to Office Hours or e-mail me to set up a separate time to work on it together.
Word Reference / Dictionaries
If you do need to look up a single word using www.wordreference.com or any other English-Spanish dictionary, please highlight that word in your work so I know that it came from an outside resource.
Jumprope
I will make sure to update it at least once a week as well with any graded work from the week.
