How do we gather Routines-based information and learn about Child Interests?

There are many possible tools or strategies for gathering routines-based information from the caregiver. EQIP teams should reflect on the strateg(ies) that work best in their programs to meet this evidence-based practice. In EQIP training, we teach the Routines Based Interview (RBI) because it is the evidence-based strategy referred to in many research sources. Other tools are available on the bottom of this page.

EQIP teams can gather child-interest information by:

~ Using a Formal Child Interest-based Assessment (ie. Interest-based Everyday Learning Activities Checklist, Asset-based Context Matrix).

~ Embedding Child Interest questions during Routines Based Interview (RBI) process

~ Asking child interest questions during ongoing visits with caregivers
