The College Board has announced they are no longer going to offer the Subject Tests or the SAT with essay, instead they will only be offering the SAT and will build a writing piece into the test. Click here for their recent announcement and for specifics on this change.
According to the Princeton review:
The SAT and ACT generally test the same types of content. Both ACT and SAT scores are used for college admissions and merit-based scholarships. The biggest differences between the tests are that the ACT has a Science Test, and there’s one SAT Math Section for which you cannot use a calculator. Most colleges don't prefer one test over the other.
All colleges that require standardized tests will accept either the SAT or ACT.
Students are increasingly taking both the SAT and ACT. The best way to decide if taking the SAT, ACT, or both tests is right for you is to take a timed full length practice test of each type.

Many schools continue to be test optional for first-year applicants! We strongly encourage all students to go directly to their college/university websites to see if standardized testing is going to be required for applicants!
You may also check out http://www.fairtest.org/university/optional for a more comprehensive and growing list of schools who are typically test optional!
The College Board has announced they will be ending administration of Subject Tests at the end of this year. At this time we know colleges and universities will need to re-evaluate their admission process due to this change. We encourage students and families to check college/university websites for how this impacts them for the Class of 2022 and beyond.
If your school requires SAT/ACT scores you have to request them to be sent through College Board or the ACT website. They are not considered official unless requested and sent through College Board/ACT. Make sure to review your schools admission requirements and request scores to be sent 2-3 weeks before the deadline! Need help? Just ask!
