8th Grade Improvisation Recording Directions
In the middle of the screen you will see a metronome next to a pair of up-and-down arrows. Open the metronome menu and select "Recording Count-In Measures: 1"
On one of the virtual instrument, select the keyboard keys next to "mute". Experiment playing the A minor Pentatonic Scale (A-C-D-E-G) (Refer to photo above/keyboard on the wall for visual) over your backing track with different instruments to find one you like.
Make sure you play notes that are ABOVE middle C. If your notes still sound really low, try pressing the + under the word octave on your keyboard.
When you choose an instrument and you are ready to record your solo, arm the track and press the red record button. There will be a short count in before your inputs will register with Mixcraft.
Mute and disarm the track that you improvised over once you are satisfied with your solo.
Repeat steps 10-12 on the other two instrument tracks, keeping only one unmuted and armed at a time. Use different instruments for each track and experiment with different styles of improvisation.
Once you have 3 different solos, listen to each to decide which is your favorite.
Once you have decided, keep the other two instrument tracks muted and select File > Mix Down To > MP3
