Stage Crew Expectations
Work well with others; Stage Crew is a team, and teamwork is a necessity.
Pay attention and focus. All Stage Crew roles have to pay attention to the play going on, and be aware of their cues so that they know when they need to move. Stage Crew operates at a fast pace in the dark.
Be quiet backstage. Stage Crew should never be seen or heard by the audience. The actors also need room to get to their scene, stage crew needs to be respectful of everyone’s space and cues.
Carry a mini flashlight. Starting with Tech Week, students must bring a small flashlight so that they can see in the dark backstage.
Understand that you are NOT to use your cell phone during rehearsals and performances, and will follow the technology rules that the school has set for school activities. Inappropriate cell phone usage can result in your removal from the show.
Understand that you could be dismissed from the production for three unexcused absences from rehearsals or technical work sessions, missing deadlines, lack of cooperation, or grade problems.
Have transportation to pick you up promptly after rehearsal, or you may be asked to leave the show.
Cooperate with all staff and students involved in the production. Crew members are leaders; your behavior should reflect maturity and our commitment to a professional show. You WILL NOT talk about cast/crew on social media, especially in a way that will reflect poorly on the show.

Stage Crew Role Descriptions
Student Backstage / Crew Manager(s): The stage manager is in charge of taking notes for the Backstage Director, attending most rehearsals, writing down crew assignments and providing assistance to the Backstage Director.
Movers: Movers are one of the backstage crews who are in charge of changing the scenes of the productions during showtime. Whenever you see a play or musical and there's a blackout between each scene, most of the time, there's people dressed in all black who are taking pieces of the set on or off, or just moving them around.
Lights and Sound:
Lights team will work the stage lighting during rehearsals and performances. They turn lights on and off, change colors, and spotlight actors to match what’s happening in the scene. They also help set up lighting equipment and learn how to use the control board.
Sound team will run the music for rehearsals and work with our professional "sound guy" during tech week and performances.
Props: Props crew helps find props and organizes any props needed for each production. They can obtain these props by making them, pulling them from the props cage, etc. Props crew also works backstage to make a props table, props map, makes sure every prop is on the table and makes it into each scene needed.
Publicity: Publicity crew is all about getting people to see our shows! They are responsible for creating the program, show posters, video advertisements to show on MEMS TV, and other fun ideas to get as many people in our seats as possible. If you want to work on advertising and creating fun, engaging content then JOIN PUBLICITY!!
