"It’s important for us to also understand that the phrase ‘Black Lives Matter’ simply refers to the notion that there’s a specific vulnerability for African Americans that needs to be addressed. It’s not meant to suggest that other lives don’t matter. It’s to suggest that other folks aren’t experiencing this particular vulnerability.” – Barack Obama

My Cajita represents who I am both ethnically and personally. The multiple pictures are a representation of my family and friends. These pictures are a reminder of who has supported and encouraged me along the way. The picture in the upper left-hand corner is of my father and mother who has stayed happily married for 28 years. Words can not express how blessed I am to have two loving parents in a household who continue to show me what love truly means. The other pictures showcase my love my traveling, my commitment to black student union club during my undergrad, a throw back picture of my older sister, father and I in Kenya, and last but not least, a picture of my college roommates who are now some of the closest friends to me. These photos continue to stay true to heart. Apart from the beautiful pictures, the upper right-hand corner is a bible verse (Corinthias:15;58) that displays my dedication to the Lord. I am Christian women who loves to spread the word to God. I have also displayed a crown in the same corner because it represents an item I wore during one of my dance performance but also represents the confidence in who I am. Lastly, there are many references throughout the box to my love for my cultural background.
