Artist Statement: Ever since I was a little girl, I have been connected to song lyrics and music. I associate music with all of my different moods and emotions. Relating music to my emotions was always something that made me feel complete. Every piece I make has a different background story and a different song that I subconsciously associated it with. I never realized until now. All of my pieces are inspired by lyrics that I feel very connected to. My theme developed as soon as I made the piece “Video Games”. The song by Lana Del Rey explains a one sided relationship, where one person is more caring for the other. I was going through an identical situation at the time and used the song as inspiration for the artwork. Not only do I associate my feelings with the lyrics, I also associate the music I hear with visual images. Whenever I listen to any song, I immediately translate the sounds to images and then interpret what the artwork could possibly look like. My question that guided my sustained investigation was, “How can I portray my thoughts and feelings from a song, visually?’
