The holidays are just around the corner. Hopefully, we will be able to spend time with family and friends. One of the fun things to do with family and friends is to play board games. However, we regularly get bored with some games so we constantly have to buy new games to play. So this year let’s do something different. Instead of buying a new board game, let’s make our own board game in English. Other students can use our board game as well.
We’ll make a list of general instructions and guidelines that can encourage others to build their own games and enjoy family meltdowns around their own games.
First of all, let's do a brainstorming and see what comes into your mind when you think of board games.
Next, let's play some word games to make sure we master the vocabulary. We'll do it on the board and you can also do it in your computers.
Let's see what general instructions and guidelines we need to build our own games. Open the Nearpod link for the interactive lesson or enter the code C9586.
Now we're going to split into groups and work on our own board game. Your game can combine different styles and themes.
Check your Google Classroom assignment to create a Board Games ID card.
There are a few stations which all involve research, problem solving, discussion and team work:
Presentation (presenting your board game ID card)
Watching (Youtube videos on board games)
Creating models (OnShape station - board and pieces)
Hand-made sketches (cardboards and paper)
Digital product (Powerpoint / Google Slides / Photo editors - board and playing cards)
Laser cut machine (creating the board)
3D printing (creating the pieces)
Share all the products with the class and discuss and evaluate them.
