Today we are going to learn about avatars. Now that you know what avatars are and why people use them, which kind of avatar do you think is the most popular? Let's vote. Link to results for discussion (available in class only)

Learn some words

Before we listen to find out what the most popular avatar really is, let's practice the new words. First do the exercises below in your computer and then we do them together on the interactive board.

Listen and interact

1. Listen to the short text about avatars to find out what the most popular avatar is. Reading alternative

2. Then answer these questions.

* Optional for teachers: Questions on Google Forms format with ready "to make a copy" template for answers.

3. What kind of avatar would you choose? Why?

* Optional for Google Apps students: use the teacher's shared document to post your opinion. (LINK ON DEMAND)

Create

Go to the site below to create your own avatar.

* Optional for Google Apps students: log in with your Google Apps account.

Follow these instructions:

1. Go to pickaface.net and click CREATE AVATAR.

2. Select ENGLISH > CREATE AVATAR and then the male or female icon.

3. Select face, eyes, nose, chin, ears, hair, accessories and gadgets and play with the options.

4. Click "Download" > Fill in your name, nickname and email. *Your email will not be published.

5. Click "Submit".

6. You can find your avatar in your mail or in the "Explore Quick Avatars".

7. Right click on the picture to save it in your computer.

Share your work - Homework assignment

1. To share your work with the class, follow these instructions:

Google Apps students: Upload your avatar to your Drive and share it with the class and with your teacher.

Non Google Apps students: Send your avatar to your teacher's mail or use a public shared teacher's Drive folder to upload your avatar.

The next lesson we will present your avatars anonymously, try to guess who they represent and then vote digitally on the best avatar.
