Dear Parents,
Our PYP Focus of the month is "Risk Taker"; "I have a go. I give it a try. I always try new things so I may know how things are done". We expect our students to try new things; making new friends, trying new food, saying "no" to poor choices.
On Friday, October 20, we will have our first student council assembly for this year. Student council members have prepared a presentation on Caring and Risk Taker. October is Anti-Bullying Awareness month so we have given a part for this as well.
As you know, I teach PSE (Personal Social Education) lessons once a week for each grade level from Pre-School to Grade 5. In PSE lessons, we have finished the first units in KG-G5 classes.
- KG students learned friendship traits; caring and being kind, sharing, helping and playing with everyone and they worked on their "friendship booklet" and they will share these with you during student led conferences.
- G1 students studied where they belong to; their families, their classrooms, communities and so on and they worked on their "I belong to" booklet and they will share with you during student led conference.
- G2 students studied healthy lifestyle and healthy choices. Making good and principled choices, think before you act and "being a bucket filler" are the PSE focus.
- G3 and G5 students studied how we express ourselves. They worked on their individual and group projects and they used different art and performance art forms to express themselves and they presented these to the class.
- G4 students learned about children's rights and their own responsibilities to protect their rights and PSE focus of "think before you act", plus healthy decision making and problem solving.
THINK before you act (Questions you need to ask yourself)
T- Is it true?
H- Is it honest?
I- Is it inspiring?
N- Is it necessary?
K- Is it kind?
Regards
