Since there are a lot of trees (as of Summer 2025) that have not been added or removed from the Master Lists for various reasons, a good way to verify which trees are actually in the Arboretum is to physically check each grid. This page details how to do it.
The first step is to create a Google My Map witch includes both the current Trees in Place Master List (which we know needs updating) and the WORKING SHEET Map. This page describes how to create this map. Actually, the Map has alread been created and you can find it here, WORKING SHEET Map.
Open the WORKING SHEET Map.
Zoom in on a grid. In this case it is Grid H-8 between Courts 14, 15, 12 and 13.
Make and print out a screen shot of just the grid.
Make a list from the two inputs. Include the Tree number if there is one, and the tree's Common Name.
Put the two printouts on clipboard and take to the field so you can check this information with what is actually there.
While you are in the grid, indicate which trees are there and which are not. If any trees are there but not in the right place, indicate where they should be. For example, tree #4002.
While you are in the grid, take a photo of each tree and record the IMG number for each tree. Note any other anomalies, for example tree #4056 doesn't have a sign and trees #4098, 4003, 4002 & 4056 don't have numbers on the signs.
Once back at the computer, update all lists and spreadsheets. Add the photos first to the Google Photos album for that grid, then a link from there to the tree's row in the master spreadsheet. Update the entry for this grid in the GRID List spreadsheet.
If any trees have signs that need numbers or a new sign, do that.
Finally, save the paper sheets in the Medford Leas Arboretum Grids binder.
