This page describes how to add data to the spreadsheet, "WORKING SHEET - Trees Additions and Removals."
This spreadsheet was created to consolidate data from the collected data on the arboretum Google Drive folder, "Verify Removed and Added Trees." Each folder within "Verify Removed and Added Trees" is a collection of additions or removals from a specific time and/or place. The purpose of this page is to describe adding the data from each of these folders to the "WORKING SHEET."
A separate page, "Using the WORKING SHEET to update Master Lists," will describe how to transfer this data from the WORKING SHEET to the master spreadsheets.
Add the information that you have on each tree to a separate row in the WORKING SHEET. Transfer the data to the appropriate column, e.g. Common Name, Latin Name, etc.
If the location information is just a description, enter it into the column entitled, "Location - Verbal." if you have actual latitude and longitude information, enter it into the "Latitude (and Longitude) - Temporary" columns. This latitude and longitude information probably came from either the metadata in a photo or from the GPS in a smart phone. Neither one of these are as accurate as we would like to be, so one of the main purposes of the WORKING SHEET is to determine the most accurate as possible location of each tree. Although this was originally done with expensive surveyor grade GPS equipment it is not possible with consumer GPS devices or smart phones.
Add whatever other information you have. This may have come from Ken Hutz’s Invoice, photos from Ken, or information from other sources. If you are using the results from the "Trees Add/Remove Form" then go to this page, "Using Trees - Add/Remove Form."
If you have photo(s) of the tree, link to them in the "Photo - OneDrive or other source" column of the spreadsheet.
Eventually you will use the WORKING SHEET to find and locate the trees and at this time you should be sure to take a photo of the tree if you don't already have a good one.
The WORKING SHEET will be an accumulation of information that will eventually be transferred to the Master spreadsheets. If the tree(s) have been removed from the arboretum, then you can go directly to the page, "Using the Working Sheet to update Master Lists" and follow the directions for a Tree Removal.
If the trees are additions to the arboretum, then you will have to find the precise location for the tree and enter it into the WORKING SHEET. This page, Using the WORKING SHEET to update Master Lists has information on how to do this.
