In 6th grade choir students start focusing on learning the physical aspects of singing as well as the singing skills and theory. This combination will help students grow and develop as musicians. 6th grade choir students will sing unison and 2-part music. They will prepare music for two performances during the school year - Christmas Program and the Pops Concert. You can find these dates under the Performance Calendar menu.
Physical aspects include understanding how the vocal muscles work, developing good breathing and good singing posture. Singing skills include matching pitch, learning the solfege scale (Do, Re, Mi...) and sight reading simple melodies and rhythms. All music skills are broken down into 6 units of learning that will be completed throughout the course of the year.
All assignments and due dates are posted in the quarter pages as well as in Google Classroomn..
