Applied 21st Century Skills is a course designed to give students technical and academic skills they will need throughout middle school, high school, college, and beyond. Students will learn practical applications of G Suite for Education. G Suite will be used to develop 21st century skills. Each unit builds upon the last by diving deeper into possible uses of G-Suite and adding complexity to the projects. Students will learn to ask questions and solve real world problems. Students will work toward mastery of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
Course Goals
To master skills in the use of Google Apps.
To build competence in skills needed to be successful in a variety of careers.
To develop digital citizenship as a life skill.
Classwork
Information about each day's classwork will be in the Daily Agenda Slideshow at the top of the Classwork page in Google Classroom. The assignments themselves will be organized by topic sections on the same page. Instructions for each project will be in the assignment links. Most assignments include instructional videos and checklists or rubrics so they can be completed at home. All projects will be digital and submitted to Google Classroom. Grades will be based on mastery of the skills required for each project.
Detailed assignment information can be found in Google Classroom on the Classwork page. The information on their Classroom To Do list is limited, so I encourage students to skip it and go straight to the Classwork page.
Students can find due dates for work assigned through Google Classroom in their mdusd.net Google Calendars. They should check their Google Calendars daily.
Students will complete most 21st Century Skills projects during class. Usually, homework will be to complete unfinished work for the day. Other homework could include studying vocabulary, reading articles, and research.
Supplies Needed
Chromebooks need to be charged and powered down every night. We do not have Chromebooks to lend or chargers to borrow. Students who forget their Chromebooks will need to complete the day’s work as homework.
Students need to bring headphones to class every day. Headphones can be bluetooth, USB, USBC, or traditional audio jack. Unfortunately, iPhone headphones will not work for M.D.U.S.D. Chromebooks.
Headphones can be purchased in the office for two dollars, but they are not durable enough to make it through the year.
Recommended
A mouse: Wired is probably better until students get their personal Chromebooks. It’s easy to forget a wireless mouse’s USB chip. Some students prefer the touch pad and that is fine.
