How to enroll your child at Whitman

To enroll your child at Whitman, please follow the steps on the Montgomery County Public Schools website and then make an enrollment appointment with Ms. Blenda LeGrande, our Registrar.

Ms. Agostino joined the Whitman Counseling Department in the 2022-2023 school year.  She graduated from Gaithersburg High School.  Ms. Agostino joined MCPS in 2012 as an Instructional Data Analyst, and then became a HS Secretary.  She is fluent in Spanish.  Married for over 25 years, Ms. Agostino has two children.  Her daughter attends UMD's Smith Business Program, and her son is in high school.  In her spare time, Ms. Agostino enjoys playing with her pet birds and walking in nature.

Viveka Dennis, School Counselor

Ms. Dennis is new to the Whitman community as of the 2023- 24 school year.  She was born and raised in New Castle, Delaware and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware.  Ms. Dennis received her Master's of Science in School Counseling from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore Maryland.  For the 2022-23 school year, Ms. Dennis had the opportunity to intern in MCPS at Francis Scott Key Middle School and Montgomery Blair High School.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family.

Angela Fang, School Counselor

Mrs. Fang is a native to Montgomery County and graduated from Wootton High School many years ago. She started her career as a school counselor at a middle school in Oakland, CA. While she loved working there, she eventually decided to return to Maryland where she is originally from. Prior to working at Whitman (where she's worked since 2015), she worked at Quince Orchard High School for five years. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son, swimming, baking, and catching up on her latest Netflix shows!

Mamata Hotha, School Counselor

Ms. Hotha has worked with teens and adults for over 10 years in a counseling and therapy capacity.  Her B.S. is from University of Michigan with graduate work at UNC-Chapel Hill and SUNY- Albany.  Through her work, she realized the importance of preparing youth socially, emotionally, and academically for the challenges of college and young adulthood.  She returned to complete an M.Ed. in school counseling and is excited to be part of the Whitman community to help high schoolers plan for and achieve their goals.

Ms. Hotha has two children in the Whitman cluster, one in elementary school and the other is a Whitman student.  She enjoys yoga and traveling in her spare time.

Wil Kapner, School Counselor

Mr. Kapner has served the families at Whitman for many years.  He earned his undergraduate degree from Goucher College.  He earned his Master of Education degree in School Counseling from Loyola University.  Mr. Kapner has a passion for working with children and helping them be successful.  In his spare time Mr. Kapner enjoys spending time with his family.

Lina Khalaf, School Counselor

Ms. Khalaf joined the Whitman Counseling Department in November 2022.  She earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Services from California State University of Fullerton.  She earned her Master in Arts in Educational Counseling from Azusa Pacific University.  Outside of school Ms. Khalaf enjoys spending time with her family and children.

Regina Moore, School Counselor

Ms. Moore joined the Whitman Counseling Department in the 2021-22 school year, with 19 years of School Counseling experience, a majority of which were spent at Bowie High School in Prince George's County.  She grew up in New Jersey, but moved to Maryland to obtain her Master of Education degree in School Counseling from Loyola University.  She has her Administration 1 Certification from McDaniel College and in 2018 earned a Master of Education Degree in Educational Technology also from Loyola University.  Ms. Moore is a Google Certified Educator Level 1 and Level 2.  In her spare time, she enjoys watching the New York Yankees, and football on Sundays.  She loves the beach, baking, and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Olga Soukas, School Counselor

Ms. Soukas’ heart will always be in Montgomery County, where she grew up and graduated from Churchill High School.  Although she moved over the bridge to Virginia, she is very familiar with all parts of Montgomery County, having working all around the area.  She graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park and then earned her Master’s in Education from Bowie State University, in School Counseling.  Ms. Soukas has experience in both elementary and high school counseling and has a love for seeing students thrive to reach their best potential.  When she is not working, she enjoys cooking, spending time with friends and family, and loves watching her three children grow.

Julian Smith, Social Worker

Mr. Smith, LMSW, is an alum of Walt Whitman High School.  He returned to Whitman in the 2022-2023 SY.  Mr. Smith graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Family Science, and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore with a concentration in Clinical Behavioral Health.

 

Mr. Smith returns to Whitman after 14 years of experience in child welfare - working with children and families in Washington, DC.  Mr. Smith believes that mental health is a crucial component of our overall health; and students will feel empowered and thrive when the school community takes a collaborative and relationship-centered approach.

 

Mr. Smith enjoys staying active by playing basketball and bike riding.  Additionally, he enjoys traveling, attending sporting events, concerts, and spending time with friends and family.

Julia Williams, Pupil Personnel Worker

Mrs. Williams is beginning her 29th year of supporting students and families in MCPS.  Before becoming a Pupil Personnel Worker in 2017, she was a Paraeducator, a School Counselor (at all three levels) and a middle school Resource Counselor.  Fluent in Spanish and English, her preferred language is Spanglish.  In addition to all the work she does as a PPW, Mrs. Williams supports system-wide initiatives as a member of the Antiracist Audit District-wide Implementation Team and the Antiracist Audit Steering Committee.  Mrs. Williams is a founding leader of the Latin@/Hispanic affinity group for MCPS staff, PODER Educators and an active member of the Hispanic Alliance for Education.  Outside of work, Mrs. Williams hangs out with her family, naps often and compulsively collects stationary and writing utensils.
