Understanding High School Credit Courses

When taking a high school credit course at the middle school level, it is important to know that...

  1. High school credits are earned by semester. Students have the potential to earn 0.5 credit per semester (1.0 credit per year) for each high school level course that is completed successfully.

  2. At the end of each semester, students will earn a final semester grade that is an average of the two quarterly grades. (i.e. 1st quarter + 2nd quarter = semester)

  3. Semester grades for any high school class completed in middle school will appear on the high school transcript. (Individual quarter grades are not reported on a student's transcript.)

  4. If a student drops a high school course after the first semester, a final semester grade will still appear on the high school transcript.

  5. Grades earned in a high school credit course will be part of a student's high school cumulative GPA.

  6. Students can repeat a high school course in order to earn a higher grade, in which case the lower grade can be removed from the transcript. (Removal of the grade must be completed by the high school counselor.)
