Special Education Resource Teacher
"One of the major functions of the Division (of Special Education) is to ensure that students with disabilities achieve the goals of the MCPS Program of Studies and the Call to Action plan in the least restrictive environment."
- Montgomery County Public Schools Department of Special Education
At Takoma Park Middle School, we offer an inclusion program to all of our students in Special Education. Students are mainstreamed for the majority, if not all, of their academic and elective classes. These classes are co-taught by a general education teacher along with a special education teacher/paraeducator.Ā
School Psychologist
School psychologists ensure that every child learns in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment. They are school-based mental health professionals trained in both psychology and education. Psychological services are available to all students.Ā
Pupil personnel workers (PPWs) act as case managers for identified students, making program changes and monitoring progress.Ā
PPWs provide service and assistance to students, families, and schools in the following four areas:
Advocate for all students.
Consult with school staff and parents on a variety of issues.
Serve as a liaison between various departments within MCPS.
Refer staff and families to outside agencies and community service providers.
