Summer RISE provides students with a career-based opportunity to engage in hands-on learning related to their field of interest.
Summer RISE is a five week/50-hour summer program for rising MCPS juniors and senior that are in-person, virtual or a combination of the two experiences. Students must be available every weekday from June 22 to July 24, 2026.

The Biomedical Laboratory Sciences (BLS) Department at The George Washington University (GW) is offering two summer programs in 2026 for high school and first-year college students. Here are the details:
Biomedical Sciences Summer Immersion Program – Designed for students with limited laboratory experience and focuses on building foundational skills needed to pursue educational opportunities or careers in the biomedical sciences.
RISE (Research & Inquiry in STEM Exploration) Program – Intended for students who want to develop research and scientific writing skills as they prepare for STEM education and careers. Click HERE for flier
The Aspire Program at the Applied Physics Lab -The ASPIRE program at APL enables high school juniors and seniors to experience and explore STEM careers before committing to an area of study in college. ASPIRE interns are paired with APL staff mentors to complete projects, solve problems, and learn to apply crucial technical and interpersonal skills in a hands-on, professional environment. Universities at Shady Grove - This highly competitive program is offered at cost for $200 per participant, with only 50 spots available. The fee includes all materials required for the team-based projects students will complete during the program. Last year, the program received over 400 applications, with just 50 students selected. The camp is administered by The University of Maryland’s Cyber-Physical Systems Engineering program.

STEM Ready with Universities at Shady Grove is a pathway program between MCPS, Montgomery College, The Universities at Shady Grove, and UMBC. The program offers:
- Access to a STEM coach to help you on your academic journey
- Assistance with the college application process
- Career readiness training in skills such as communication, teamwork and leadership
- Connections to regional STEM employers for career experiences
- Enrichment opportunities during the school year and the summer to build your resume

Rockville Swim and Fitness Center - The Rockville Swim and Fitness Center is hosting a hiring event for potential part-time summer staff on Monday, March 23 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm. Anyone interested in a summer job at the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center can attend any time and no appointment is needed.
This event will be a “one stop shop” for potential employees to come in and speak with a management staff member about positions available, fill out an application on-site, participate in a skills evaluation (bring swim attire) for their preferred position, and schedule a time to return for a verbal interview. Certifications or prior work experience are not required to participate in this event and training opportunities are available for prospective employees. Swim and Fitness Center management staff members will be on-site to help walk potential employees through the application process, and to answer questions and help facilitate applying for summer work. International Committee for the Red Cross (Volunteer)
International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) for teens 14-17 in case there are students at Sherwood who would be interested. Here are the instructions and link to apply for the Maryland location (Walter Reed Military Medical Center) is attached. The ICRC is different that the American Red Cross and has more of a role to help those affected by armed conflicts globally. It could be helpful for those interested in joining the military or health care since they will receive a certificate a the end of the 5 weeks.
Spiral Path Farm CSA is offering 3 job opportunities for students in Silver Spring, Bethesda, and North Bethesda. Anyone interested in agriculture, agribusiness, or environmental studies. Local teens have done a great job in these positions in the past. They are looking for market helpers to help run their farmer's market stands for their 100% certified organic vegetable farm. Two opportunities to develop skills in emerging tech fields including data science, quantum computing & cybersecurity and apply those skills to real research mentored by industry professionals. Programs are free + provide a stipend for the first 150 accepted students. No prior experience required.

The Persian Flagship Program is a unique opportunity for students who want to gain professional level fluency in Persian while studying their major(s) of choice at UMD.
