UMD Language Institute

The Persian Flagship Program is a unique opportunity for students who want to gain professional level fluency in Persian while studying their major(s) of choice at UMD. Students interested in pursuing global careers are key candidates. The program graduates students with professional level Persian, who then go on to careers in federal service, intelligence, non-profit, education, and beyond. No prior experience in Persian is required.

The Summer Language Institute offers students a year's worth of language study in just 9 weeks. Students can benefit from Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced level instruction in Arabic, Korean, or Persian through an intensive learning environment that simulates a fully immersive experience. Summer 2026 offers a hybrid program, with in-person and virtual sessions available.
