HOBY Youth Leadership

If you are interested in this opportunity, notify Ms. Wolk ASAP.

What is HOBY?

HOBY is the premiere youth leadership program for high school students. HOBY empowers young people to become a positive force for good through volunteerism and service around the world. At HOBY, high school students are invited to explore their leadership potential through our inspiring leadership development programs and projects.

Our programs include:

One-Day Program (CLeW) for 9th or 10th Grade

HOBY's introductory one-day program focuses on leadership as a discipline to be explored and learned. Program participants interact with community leaders, participate in group activities, and more. This program is free to attend and will be held virtually via Zoom three times throughout the year, with two programs for 9th grade students (November & April) and one program (January) for 10th grade students who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC). Our 10th grade program serves as an intentional initiative to close the racial representation gap that is often seen in high school leadership programs nationwide. Students who attend our CLeW programs may be able to attend our flagship 10th grade program as well and we will work to provide scholarships to students interested in attending where possible. Registration forms will be sent as these programs get closer. If you have any questions about our CLeW Programs, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at clew@hobymd.org.

Flagship 10th Grade Leadership Seminar

HOBY's flagship program allows high school sophomores to realize their leadership talents and apply them in becoming effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace, and community. Students selected by your school attend a four-day program in the summer months and participate in hands-on leadership activities while exploring their own personal leadership skills to make an impact in their local community. Alumni of HOBY programs join an alumni network with outstanding opportunities in the future, including international conferences and networking events, future service projects, and more!

IMPORTANT: REGISTRATION INFORMATION

At this time, we have not officially set our seminar dates, but we are shooting for mid-June at Towson University. We will notify Nominators as soon as these details have been confirmed.

This year, there has also been a change in the fee structure for our seminar. Starting this year, all students (including both primary and additional students) will have a registration fee of $250 as long as they are fully registered by our December 8th Early Bird deadline. All students (including both primary and additional students) who register after December 8th will have a registration fee of $300.

Important Note on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

HOBY Maryland is committed to ensuring that our seminar is accessible to all students, so a limited number of need-based sponsorships are available each year. Additionally, in accordance with HOBY's mission to inspire and develop a global community of youth and volunteers, HOBY Maryland is committed to expanding our efforts to create spaces rooted in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Thus, we have invested additional funding into Hispanic Heritage Sponsorships, in order to increase the representation of our Hispanic and Latinx students this year, which we have found to be our most underrepresented group. If you think a registration fee would be a barrier for your school community and the communities you serve or you have a student who you believe would be a good fit for our Hispanic Heritage Sponsorship, please contact me directly at seminarchair@hobymd.org and we will do our best to identify funding to support their attendance.
