8th Grade Families, Explore High School Possibilities!
Grade 8 families, the final year of middle school is underway—and it’s time to start thinking about high school options!
Montgomery County Public Schools will open the new Centers of MCPS admission process for students entering Grade 9 in the 2027–2028 school year.
In addition to the vibrant academic, extracurricular, athletic, and social opportunities available at every student’s local high school, families can explore specialized four-year Center programs offered within their region. Programs are organized across five exciting themes:
Medical Science
International Baccalaureate, Humanities, and Languages
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
Leadership and Public Service
Visual and Performing Arts
Applying to a Center program is optional, and students may rank up to eight programs based on their interests. Grade 8 students and their families are encouraged to attend the fall high school showcases to meet staff and students and learn more about programs throughout their region. Center programs are optional.

September
Sept 14 and Sept 23: Virtual Information Sessions (details will be shared very soon) Learn about the application process, requirements, and offerings in each region and theme.
October
Beginning in early October, families will receive a personalized High School Possibility Report in ParentVUE and StudentVUE. The report will outline the high school and Center program options available to each student based on their home address.
Fall showcases at each high school (link to dates) will give students and families an opportunity to explore the specific courses, opportunities, Center programs and offerings in their schools, as well as meet staff and learn about extracurricular activities.
The Round 1 application deadline is November 6, 2026.

Begin exploring local high school and Center program opportunities.
