It is important for all students and staff to use information and resources ethically and responsibly. Students and teachers must use books, websites, music, and other resources created by others in a way that aligns with rules about copyright and fair use. This includes the how creative work is shared and how credit is given to the author or creator when using information from sources. School library staff can help students and teachers with understanding practices for ethical use.
Plagiarism is using the ideas or work of others without giving credit to the original source, author, or creator. The Student Responsible Use Guidelines in A Student's Guide to Rights and Responsibilities Handbook state, "Students will give acknowledgement to others for their ideas and work." It is expected that students give credit to the original sources of ideas or information used in their class assignments. This is part of being a good digital citizen. The librarian can help you learn how to correctly cite and credit information and ideas. Be sure to ask for help with citing sources if you need it!
