Every year we celebrate Lunar New Year at BRES. We learn about the importance and traditions of the holiday and it's cultural impact around the world. This year we reviewed Lunar New Year and discussed this year's zodiac animal which is the year of the horse. After learning and reviewing the annual celebration students created their own unique rocking horses.
Students discussed and analyzed what a Still Life object could be in a work of art and used this knowledge to help them draw their own still life composition. Students drew object from observation and then added decorative color, line, and shape patterns to the table and background part of their design. Lastly they colored in their work using crayons and markers.
Students looked at the artwork of Disney illustrator and creator, Mary Blair. Student's learned about Blair's life and her unique additions to Disney's cartoon movies and her input in the creation of the ride, It's a Small World . After looking at her use of bright contrasting colors and use of shapes they then created their own unique and original castle inspired by Mary Blair's artistic style.
Students looked at the artwork of African American artist, June Edmonds and then depicted their own abstract line and shape collage inspired by Edmonds use of circles and repetitive lines and designs.
