Second Grade Mary Blair Shape Castles

Students in Second Grade looked at and discussed the artwork of famous Disney illustrator, Mary Blair. After looking at Blairs work and discussing the wide variety of shapes, lines, designs, decorations, and patterns that she was known for using her her work - students used more than one type of geometric shape in order to construct a collage depicting an original castle design. Once their pieces were glued down they then added lines, patterns, and designs to the castle in order to decorate it as well as drawing and coloring a completed background for their castle. 

Second Grade Line and Shape Collages

Students in Second Grade designed and created their own original abstract collages based on the art work of painter, June Edmonds. Students were asked to fill their space with more than one line and color.
