New River Valley Izaak Walton League of America Scholarship 

The Izaak Walton League helps to conserve, maintain, protect, and restore the soil, forest, water, and other natural resources of the United States and other lands; to promote means and opportunities for the education of the public with respect to such resources and their enjoyment and wholesome utilization. Part of our longstanding mission includes education. The New River Valley IWLA Conservation Scholarship program was established in 2023 to promote conservation leadership among future natural resource managers and professionals. This scholarship supports graduating high school seniors from the New River Valley who are from recognized conservation or environment-related degree programs. These degree and trade programs may include (but are not limited to) environmental science, natural resource management, forestry, wildlife, fisheries, parks and recreation, range management, and other related sciences such as ecology, biology (conservation/ field/ marine), geology, hydrology, and zoology.

Applicant Requirements:

1. Be a current graduating senior from a school in Montgomery County, Pulaski County, Giles County, Floyd County or City of Radford.

2. An applicant can only receive the scholarship once.

3. Consideration will be given to current members or children/grandchildren of current members but relation or membership is not required.

4. Applicant must complete application New River Valley Izaak Walton League of America Scholarship Application Form

5. Applicant must be accepted and enrolled as a full-time student in a post-secondary conservation or natural resources related program. Applicant can provide proof by providing an acceptance letter.

6. Applicant must provide a letter which includes:

a. Personal Statement: Write a statement directed to the scholarship committee providing information concerning your career goals, objectives, interests, how you plan to use your education/training in the future, and any other information about yourself that you would like to share with the board (500 words or less)

b. Critical Conservation Issue: Identify what you believe to be the most important conservation issues facing North America during the next 10 years, and discuss what you believe will be helpful natural resource management practices to help offset the problems created by this issue or correct the issue itself. (500 words or less)

7. Applicant must provide two letters of reference. One must come from a current or former teacher you have worked with. Neither may come from a relative. 8. Applicant must provide an official transcript from graduating high school or post secondary program proving their GPA.

Mt. Tabor Ruritan Club Educational Scholarship

The Mt. Tabor Ruritan Club, located in Blacksburg, VA, is committed to the local community with service project efforts and financial support. To promote the educational advancement of students with need, the Mt. Tabor Ruritan Club is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships of $500 each for eligible* graduating seniors to attend an accredited post-secondary institution.

Montgomery County Farm Bureau Scholarship

The Montgomery County Farm Bureau will award up to four $1,000 scholarships to qualified applicants. Applicants must be graduating from MCPS, accepted to a college or university, and include a letter with information about agriculture background, career goals, and why you should be considered for this scholarship.

Blacksburg Junior Women's Club Scholarship

The Blacksburg Junior Women’s Club (BJWC) is a nonprofit organization of women who share a common desire to serve the community while building and enjoying lasting friendships. The Blacksburg Junior Women’s Club seeks to identify the needs in our area and to strive to meet those needs, specifically those involving women and children.

Three college scholarships, one for $500 and two for $250, are available for a graduating high school senior who has demonstrated strong participation in local community service activities that fall into one or more GFWC areas of interest.

Scholarship Application- Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

The Roanoke Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. has announced that their scholarship application is now available on the chapter's website (https://www.roanokealumnaedst.org/2023-scholarship) , with a April 15th due date. Applicants must be African-American and a graduating senior, who plans to enter a 2-4 year accredited institution of higher learning, and have a GPA of 2.75 or higher.

Volunteer Montgomery

This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding high school senior who plans to pursue studies In a human services/human medical field. Please submit any Information concerning your scholastic and personal achievements. The recipient will receive a $1000 scholarship for tuition assistance, which will be forwarded to the university.

 Foundation for Fraternal Excellence Men's College Scholarship

The scholarship is designed to identify and reward outstanding high school seniors who have demonstrated an ability to excel in the fields of academics, extra-curricular school activities, and community involvement. The scholarship is available to any male, senior graduating high school who is enrolling in a four-year undergraduate college program that commences in the fall. The scholarship is awarded through the Foundation for Fraternal Excellence, a registered 501(c)3 organization. Current or future membership in a fraternity is not required.

George Marshall Holmes Scholarship

George Marshall Holmes was a resident of Blacksburg, Virginia. At his request, a scholarship has been established in his name for a deserving student or students at Blacksburg High School through the National Bank of Blacksburg. In order to qualify for this scholarship, the student(s) should be highly qualified academically, demonstrate financial need, and must attend Virginia Tech as a full time student in the fall of 2023.

New River Community Action Scholarship 

In memory of the Reverend George L. Ducker, member of the New River Community Action Board of Directors 1986-1992, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Radford, Radford City School Board, and United Way Board member, community leader and advocate of quality education for all.  One scholarship award will be given in the amount of $1,000 to a low-income graduating senior who will be entering college or technical school.  General family income: 200% federal poverty guidelines. https://aspe.hhs.gov/system/files/aspe-files/107166/2021-percentage-poverty-tool.xlsx.

COSMOPOLITAN CLUB OF ROANOKE Annual Track Meet Scholarship

This year The Cosmopolitan Club of Roanoke will award two $3,500 scholarships to a Senior High School male and a Senior High School female Cosmopolitan Track Meet participant that is pursuing further education after graduation.

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Montgomery County and Radford Scholarship

Each year the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Montgomery County and Radford (RSVP) awards two $1,000 scholarships to outstanding high school seniors attending Montgomery County and Radford schools who plan to pursue studies in a human services/medical field.   Applications are due in the RSVP office before the close of business on Friday, April 13, 2023. The time and date are a timestamp, and any application received after 5 pm will not be accepted.

Roanoke Valley Horsemen’s Association Scholarship

The Roanoke Valley Horsemen’s Association (RVHA) is offering a scholarship that will be awarded to  a student who is planning to pursue an education that will lead to a two-year or higher degree in a course of study associated with the Agricultural Industry (i.e. Agricultural Business, Animal Science, Dairy, Pre-Veterinarian, Poultry Science) or a similar field. Graduating seniors from MCPS and other local school districts are eligible for this scholarship. One $500 scholarship will be awarded.

RVHA 2024 Scholarship Application

Frank E Page Scholarship

The Frank E Page Scholarship was established to give financial assistance to "deserving students who shall be graduated from the public high schools of Montgomery County, Virginia." Grants are made on a yearly basis and are renewable, dependent on the student's academic record. Criteria includes financial need and academic success. This scholarship is available for 2 or 4 year institutions and community colleges. 

NOTE: Give careful consideration to Question 5 found on  page four of the application. This question should be answered fully and is a very important part of the application.

Virginia Tech Truck Club - SHAYNE LEE'S SCHOLARSHIP

The founders of the Truck Club at Virginia Tech were given a chance to succeed by their very first sponsor, and would like to pay that chance forward and give a future Virginia Tech Hokie this scholarship so that they too can be given the tools they need for success. In honor and in the spirit of giving chances, we are privileged to name this scholarship fund after our very first Truck Club at Virginia Tech sponsor; Shayne Lee's Scholarship Fund!  Minimum scholarship awarded: $500
