The trumpet is the highest instrument in the brass family and is one of the most versatile instruments. Like the trombone, the trumpet can play in orchestras, wind bands, jazz bands, brass quintets, big bands, pop bands, funk bands, ska bands… The list goes on! The range of emotions a good trumpeter can bring to fruition outstrips probably any other wind instrument. Its ability to seamlessly transition from raw power to muted sorrow puts this one up behind piano. Not only is it versatile and used in many genres, it is prominent in many styles of music. Jazz, blues, symphonic, orchestral, chamber, and marching. At McKinnon, trumpet players are involved in a variety of ensembles including brass groups, Concert Bands, Orchestra and Stage Bands.
