Senior Strings is McKinnon's Senior level string orchestra, and is currently conducted by Ms Georgina Mead.
This ensemble includes approximately 50 students and rehearses after school on Wednesdays at McKinnon Road Campus.Â
Senior Strings is new in 2025, created to give students more varied performance and musical development opportunities.
During this rehearsal students continue to develop their ensemble skills to an even more advanced level. This includes playing longer and more complex musical selections with the potential to develop a greater range of musical expression, developing more independence and self-reliance within the group and widening students' understanding of music of the past and of different cultures through high quality repertoire.
Performance activities they may expect to engage in include concerts in the school hall, McKinnon's annual Winter Concert held at Robert Blackwood Hall, and events such as the Victorian School Music Festival.
