The trombone is different to other members of the brass family in that it has a slide which is moved into various positions to change notes, rather than valves. That means it is capable of some unique musical effects! But like the other brass instruments, the trombone can be very versatile and expressive, and is played in virtually all styles of music. Although it looks very long when it's assembled, it comes apart to fit in a more compact case, and because it doesn't have a lot of complicated mechanism, it's a lot lighter than you'd think. You don't need to be especially tall or to have really long arms to play the trombone, but if you haven't quite grown into it yet we have a few trombones available for hire which are designed to be played by smaller people.
