Here's an introduction to the saxophone:
The saxophone is a family of its own within the woodwind family, and has seven members. The saxophones you will see most commonly are the alto and the tenor saxophone, and year 7 students will start on one or other of those. However, once you have learned one saxophone, it's fairly easy to transfer your skills to another, and many saxophone students take the opportunity to play more than one type during their time at McKinnon. The alto saxophone is a little smaller and higher in pitch than the tenor saxophone; we also use the baritone saxophone in our bands, which is bigger and deeper than the tenor.
