Here are some great games where players work together against the game, and whether they win together or lose together, have a great time!
In Forbidden Island, players are adventurers exploring an island, attempting to recover 4 sacred treasures before the island sinks. On your turn, you take up to 3 actions, moving around the board (which is set up differently every game) and trying to keep the island tiles from sinking into the ocean. After each player turn, the game itself gets a turn, in which certain parts of the island will become flooded, and possibly be removed from the game. Capture all 4 treasures and get to the helicopter to win!
***Forbidden Desert and Forbidden Sky are other games in this series that are also fantastic. The complexity and difficulty of them is a bit higher compared to Forbidden Island, but if y'all are ready for a challenge after Forbidden Island, go for it!
In Flash Point: Fire Rescue, players take on the role of firefighters heroically rushing into a burning building to rescue victims. On your turn, you will spend a limited number of actions to move around the building, fight back the raging fire, and carry victims to safety. After each player turn, the fire will randomly spread to different parts of the building, based on the results of a dice roll and a very clever grid system. If the players can rescue 7 victims before the fire consumes the building, they win!
In Magic Maze, players are working together to guide four fantasy adventurers to their equipment, making their way through a maze of a mall. This is a real-time game, meaning there are no turns, and all players play at the same time, working against a sand timer to accomplish their collective goal. Each player is in charge of one type of action (moving in a certain direction, exploring a new tile, riding an escalator), and may do that action with any of the four adventurer pieces. The very fun and crazy twist is: players are not allowed to communicate at all about what they should be doing!
