Meet the Staff (Spring 2021)

Asa Cianchette

Howdy! My name is Asa Cianchette, and I’m a senior/big man on campus here at good ol’ MCI. I’m a very relaxed and easy to approach individual that likes to strike up a conversation about most anything. I like to describe my personality as Willem Defoe meets 1970’s era George Harrison, if that’s easier for you to get a better sense of me. As a 17 year old musician, I spend a lot of my free time behind an instrument of some kind or in a musical group, either in school or out, broadening my musical horizons as much as I can. I primarily focus on drums, but I can play a few other things. I decided to take Intro to Journalism when a gap opened up in my schedule, prompting me to fill it with this class, as I’ve always been interested in writing and journalism. My goal in life is to ultimately make a living in the music field. Whether it’s performance, education, or even audio engineering, I’ll be all set as long as I’m around anything music related.

Lucas Halferty

My name is Lucas and I am in the eleventh grade. I am passionate about learning something new and having an adventure. I am taking intro to journalism because I just chose it. My life goals are to have a proper mindset and balance.

Dayun Kim

Hello! My name is Dayun Kim, and I’m a senior at MCI. I’m passionate about my education, family, and friends. I decided to take journalism because I love to write something and want to improve my writing skills. I want to major in diplomacy when I go to college. I have been interested in different cultures since I was younger and like to learn new languages. I want to understand the relationship between various countries and study more about it. I like swimming and watching movies in my free time. I usually go to the library to study and hang out with my friends on campus. My life goal is to live a challenging life and want a life worth living by being passionate about something.

Justin Kim

My name is Justin Kim. I'm a sophomore in 10th grade. I’m passionate about eating, watching movies and solving math problems. I’m interested in debating so I thought if I take journalism class, I can write discussion papers well. My life goal is to be a doctor. I respect doctors who operate on people to treat people.

Lydia-Mae Roderick

My name is Lydia-Mae, and I am a junior. I’m passionate about justice, politics, and civil rights for everyone. I originally took up taking intro to journalism because I enjoy writing and politics and was thinking of pursuing a career as a journalist. However now I would like to be more involved in politics and begin my career as a lawyer, and work my way up the ladder throughout my adulthood. On campus, you’ll usually find me in the art building after school where I participate in drama and GSA, in the library where I meet with other members of the student council, or off campus where I’ll be at the tennis courts honing my skills.

Ronnie Shaw

My name is Ronnie Shaw and I’m a senior at MCI. Something I’m passionate about is being outdoors and going on random adventures that lead me to the sunset. I’m taking journalism because I want to work on my writing skills. I do Girl Scouts outside of school, and I’m currently an Ambassador, which is the highest level. My life goal is to finish high school and go to college outside of Maine to be an interior designer and be a bartender on the side.

Sam Chen

Hi, My name is Sam Chen. Nice to meet you. I’m a junior level student (grade 11). I love taking pictures, sometimes I cannot even wait for only one picture in a whole day. My favorite things are taking photos of birds and taking photos of the Celestial body. I joined this class because I want to learn more about Journalism. It is really interesting. I like basketball and billiards too, if I went back to school (I am currently still in China), these two would be my first choice. In the future, I want to be an Astrophysicist or travel all over the world and take pictures.
