2018 Staff

Bartianna

Hi, I’m Bartianna, but I prefer Bart. I am a sophomore at Maine Central Institute. I’m not exactly passionate about pursuing journalism after high school, but I am interested in other clubs and activities that allow me to explore different roles I might be interested in. I am a part of many clubs and volunteer opportunities around school, including Key Club and Model UN. I tend to blend in on campus (mostly because I am always going somewhere). Ever since I can remember I have been interested in different forms of communication because it fits into my never-ending want/need to help others. Long-term I want to work in obstetrics. Being an OB would fulfill my goal of being a part of something much greater than myself, plus working with women and newborns everyday would be a dream come true. My favorite quote at the moment is from Maya Angelou, “I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide, welling and swelling I bear in the tide.” It is a reminder that there is always more to come.

Hayden

My name is Hayden Caldwell and I am a junior at MCI. I am 16 years old and was born in Kentucky. One of my passion is sports, I have been playing them since I was little. I play varsity soccer, basketball and baseball, I am also a captain for all three of those sports. Being a captain in those sports I take great responsibility in those roles, and encourage my teammates/peers to do the same to help themselves and others succeed. I am involved in Kindess Krew, SLC and I am the president of the Philanthropy Council. In school I have an interest in both math and science. I also love helping the community by helping refereeing and do clinics for the Rec Department in Pittsfield.

Nick

I am a writer and editor for the Bell Tower Press at Maine Central Institute. Here at BTP I also oversee the other writers and ensure they maintain good spirits. Outside of my journalistic commitments I am also an aspiring professional skater and fashion designer as well.

Caitlin

I’m Caitlin McKenney. I’m a junior and quite honestly, journalism is probably one of things that I’d least expect myself to do. Despite that, I am here! Some of the things that I like to do are run, study the brain, eat KFC, go shopping, and read. I love wearing scrunchies and everything else that entails fashion. When I graduate from MCI, I intend to study a blend of psychology, neuroscience, and pre-med to become a neurosurgeon. I took journalism for something that would be chill and calming, as my schedule gets very busy and stressful. I have been active in many clubs here at MCI including Philanthropy Council and NHS. I love to laugh and be happy myself, but my favorite thing is making everyone around me happy. One of the things I’m most looking forward to is summer and applying to colleges in the fall.

Dylon

Hello my name is Dylon Peavey. A lot of my friends call me Peavey though. I’m a junior at Maine Central Institute. I don’t think I would be interested in journalism after high school I kinda just took the class to get my credit, but it is a fun class. I’m on the lacrosse team but not many clubs.

Edith

Hello, I’m Edith Tierney, but most people call me Edie. I am a sophomore at MCI. I am interested in a lot of things and passionate about global affairs and helping people. Due to this, I am involved in many clubs on campus, including Key Club, NHS, and Model UN. I’m in the Intro. to Journalism and Publishing class because I am very interested in journalism. I have always enjoyed writing, and for me journalism is a very productive and directed format. When I graduate I plan on going to college and majoring in either International Affairs or Journalism. After college I hope to volunteer for the Peace Corps. One of my favorite quotes is “...devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community and those around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you meaning and purpose.” This quote is from Tuesdays with Morrie.

Vasa

My name is Vasilije Vojvodic, but my nickname is Vasa. I am 18 years old and I am a senior in Maine Central Institute. I was born in Serbia in the capital city of Belgrade. I went to my first three years of high school in Serbia, and then I decided that I wanted to study in the U.S. I was influenced by my parents to go, and I don’t regret it at all. I play basketball and have a great interest in history and geography. I want to study architecture in college, and I am planning on getting my Master’s degree somewhere in Europe. I am still not fully aware of what my ultimate goal is, but it is safe to say that I am enjoying life and don’t want to face the responsibilities of an adult just yet.
