See below for information about OPTIONAL Dual-Enrollment classes at Surry.
These classes are not for everyone and are completely optional, but some students add a dual-enrollment class to their schedule to challenge themselves, earn some college credits, or explore an academic/professional area that interests them.
If you are interested in taking a college class, please contact Mr. Rezzo
ABOUT CAREER & COLLEGE PROMISE (CCP):
Juniors and Seniors in North Carolina have the opportunity to take tuition-free, dual-enrollment college courses, predominantly online, that provide them with both high school credit and college credits simultaneously for each course.
College & Career Options: Both College Transfer Pathways and Career/Technical Pathways are available allowing students to either explore a career area or work through a general education course that should transfer to many 4-year schools.
Classical Core + College: Students remain in Millennium's classical core high school classes, but if they are interested, they can opt to add a Surry college class in addition to their high school courses and/or in place of an elective.
Online: For logistical reasons, students predominantly take these courses online instead of seated. This involves work and readings being posted at the beginning of the week and students using their study period in the atrium or a classroom to complete it all before the end-of-week deadline. Students must have the self-discipline and motivation to learn in an asynchronous online setting that will not involve direct instruction from the professor, though they can always reach out to the professor for help.
INSTRUCTIONS
If you are interested in taking a college course through Surry, please follow these 5 steps and contact Mr. Rezzo at your earliest convenience to sign up for a class. DO NOT wait until the last minute!
1. CONSIDER THE COURSE OFFERINGS
You cannot take any course Surry offers, only some of the pathways and courses listed on the CCP Site.
2. DECIDE ON A COURSE
To find course descriptions simply explore the Surry CCP website. Or just ask Mr. Rezzo if you need help.
3. COMPLETE APPLICATION AND TURN IN TO MR. REZZO
Once you have decided on a class, please turn in your completed and signed CCP Registration Form to Mr. Rezzo. Ignore the part that mentions transcripts or test scores. I will gather your transcript and submit everything to Surry for you.
4. RECEIVE SCHEDULE AND ORIENTATION INSTRUCTIONS
If you qualify and there is space in the class, you should then be registered for the course and Surry will contact you with your schedule, orientation information for new students, and more.
5. PREPARE TO WORK HARD ON THIS COLLEGE COURSE!
These college courses will be added to your high school transcript for high school credit, but you will also have a College Transcript from Surry which can be used to transfer college credit to future colleges. Some of these classes may challenge you, but please let me know if you need help so I can find a way to get you the support you need!
PLEASE let me know if you need help with any of these steps!
Complete Application and turn in to Mr. Rezzo: Once you have decided on a class, please turn in or email your completed CCP Application Form (see below). I will then gather your transcript and other required documents and send everything to Surry.
This is a fillable PDF, so you can enter everything digitally, including your signature which can simply be your typed name.
If you don't have a program, students have had success with the DocHub Chrome Extension which you can add to your browser. Then simply open the PDF in Chrome and click "Open with" and select DocHub.
As a reminder, some colleges will request your college transcript from Surry at this time for admissions and course credit purposes, so please see below for instructions in case you need them!
If you took dual-enrollment CCP classes through Surry, you may be asked to have your Surry transcript sent directly from the community college for your college application (these courses also appear on your HS transcript, so some colleges may not require the Surry transcript at the time of application). Either way, you will definitely need to send your final Surry transcript at the end of the year to ensure that your dual-enrollment classes transfer to the college you plan to attend.
Anyone needing a Surry transcript sent to another college may choose one of the following options:
Order your transcript online through the National Student Clearinghouse. At the top of the page, click Order-Track-Verify and then Order a Transcript. On the following page, type in Surry Community College. Follow the instructions on the screen to order your transcript.
Go to the Information Desk in the Reeves (A) Building, pay the $3.00 per transcript fee (for official copies) to the cashier, and bring your receipt to the registration desk in the Student Services Office. For unofficial copies, go directly to the registration desk. They will process your request at that time.
Students should bring their picture ID, or in order for someone else to pick up your transcript, Surry will need your written permission with your signature allowing them to do so. They will also need to present a valid picture ID upon arrival.
